TC Candler's Review

A

The Kings of New England...

The art of well-paced and powerful storytelling is manifested in this movie. There are no explosions or chases or catastrophes here... just a story of an boy, the orphanage he grew up in, and the relationships in his young life. The issues in this film are profound, and dealt with superbly. It is a sweet story that doesn't feel the need to rush the viewer from one plot point to another. I highly recommend 'The Cider House Rules'.

Richard Propes' Comment

This film garnered 7 Oscar nominations and 2 wins, most notably for Michael Caine's magnificent performance. Scripted by John Irving based upon his own novel, the film beautifully captures the story of a young boy growing up in an orphanage and his life beyond the orphanage. "The Cider House Rules" is a quiet, sweet and beautiful film with stellar cinematography and assured, controlled performances throughout.
