Okay, what
cracks me up is that in 1983 Bob Clark III
directed two films...this film and Porky's II.
What's up with that? :0 Sadly, he never has
gotten much better than this film. His other
films include the likes of "Baby Geniuses" and
"Baby Geniuses 2", "Turk 182", "Rhinestone" and
"From the Hip". The first time I saw this film I
didn't care for it at all. Still, my best friend
loved this Christmas movie...proclaimed it one
of his favorites. So, I gave it another chance.
It has a nice, simple charm that is refreshing.
Peter Billingsley, who can be so obnoxious, was
really wonderful here. Melinda Dillon and Darren
Gavin did a nice job as his parents. I don't
watch this one every Christmas, but it has
slowly come into my favor.

As I
write this, it is early November. But is is
already getting cold down here in Texas, and I
am in the Christmas spirit! So I feel like
reviewing my favorite Christmas movie: "A
Christmas Story."
It is about Ralphie, a kid growing up in the
1940s who only wants an Official Red Ryder
Carbine-Action 200 Shot Range Model Air Rifle
for Christmas. His parents say no with the usual
phrase, "No, you'll shoot your eye out!"
What follows is a delicious treat for people of
all ages. We see Christmas through the eyes of a
child as he struggles to not only get what he
wants for Christmas, but we watch him learn life
lessons. Some of them are generic (Christmas is
about family, fighting is bad) but others
hilarious (Don't stick your tongue to a frozen
pole, don't break lamps that are "major awards,
etc).
This movie is a tradition. Each December we
watch it many, many times. No wonder, it's
heartwarming and hilarious.
