Ahhh
romance...
This
is a really sensual film about the needs and
wants of two people who can seemingly fill those
holes in each other. A dot com millionaire, who
wants to love and needs to be loved, finds a
girl he thinks is perfect. She is a stripper,
who needs to be paid but wants to be loved by
someone who doesn't only lust after her. The two
of them make an arrangement to go to Vegas for
the weekend... he gets her, she gets $10,000...
but there are rules. No kissing on the mouth, no
talk of feelings, no penetration. Needless to
say, the rules are broken and the feelings come
flooding out. This is a smart and sexy film
about the danger of our needs and wants... I
highly recommend this film.

I love
Wang/July's script, but not necessarily how it's
brought to life. Molly Parker received a
well-deserved Independent Spirit nomination for
her performance here, and Sarsgaard also offers
a strong performance. Wang is one of those
directors I tend to admire. He refuses to be
pigeonholed into making one specific type of
film. He's incredibly hit and miss, but I'd take
him any day over someone who does only one
thing...even if they do it incredibly well.
