Simply Brilliant... |
| |
| Cinema perfection is
the 'mercy' scene toward the end of the film... notice the eyes
opening and closing... notice the timing and accentuation of the
score... notice the arc from fear, to loneliness, to sadness, to
peace, to happiness, to love... all conveyed without words! The drop
of the handkerchief is as memorable and powerful a moment as I have
ever experienced while watching a film. Mel Gibson has crafted his
signature film and an epic that rivals all others. To detail the
plot for a film like this is pointless. You've clearly already
seen the film. It was a deserving Oscar winner for Best Picture
of 1995 and ranks as one of the 10-15 best films of that decade.
Some critics have derided the film for its lack of accuracy... But
seriously, who cares? This film stands on its own. It
doesn't have to be a historical document in order for it to be an
overwhelmingly successful cinematic endeavor.
"Braveheart" is one of my all time faves. I can watch it
endlessly. It is exciting and romantic, noble and passionate.
It is hard to imagine any way to improve the film. It is
perfect. |

Propes' Comment
I'm much
closer to Jacob on this film than TC, but I've
decided to re-watch it before I offer a
conclusive review.

Hall's Comment
This film simply would not captivate me! I
really looked forward to seeing it after all of
the good things I heard, but I found myself
checking my watch during the movie (which is
never a good sign).
Sure the battles, costumes, acting, and tech are
all great, but the film feels tedious and I just
could not get into it.
Considering how much went into it, I'm glad most
of the world loved
it.
