Another Hitchcock masterpiece! |

The
appeal of Hitchcock is that he can take something simple and turn it
into a terrifying thing. Showers, heights, broken legs, they all
terrify me now. But the one that terrifies the most, is the sight of a
flock of birds.
What would happen if one day, for no reason, every bird in the world
goes seemingly insane and attacks every human it sees? That is the
story behind "The Birds" one of Hitch's greatest achievements.
As with all of his movies, the suspense is unbearable and the payoff,
terrifying. A flock of birds attack a group of schoolchildren...people
barricade themselves in stores and restaurants as thousands of birds
swoop down for the kill...our heroes, barricaded in their homes, watch
in horror as the front door is slowly broken apart by hundreds of
pecking beaks.
This film is like "Jaws": made decades ago, but still has enough power
to scare a modern audience. The visual effects also hold up, a rare
feat.
I have heard many people of all ages and both sexes scream during this
film. That is very rare...very rare indeed. |

A
marvelous film, however, the "scream" mentioned
by Jacob is missing during this film. While I've
also found it suspenseful and anxiety-inducing,
I've never found it particularly frightening.
