Richard Propes' Review

C

"Barbershop 2" is a moderately entertaining sequel to the original, surprise hit "Barbershop." I admit that when I saw the first film, I was pleasantly surprised and enjoyed the concept. My previous employer would talk often about the "Barbershop" that he would visit...so, in many ways, the film felt like a peek inside.

Yet, much of the charm & humor of the original film is missing here. Sure, Cedric the Entertainer still does a nice job...but, most of the jokes, storylines and situations are simply repeats from the original film.

This film certainly has higher production values, surely a result of the financial success of the first film. Additionally, it hits more dramatic notes than the original. Yet, neither of these things translates into a better film.

Ice Cube has less to do here, and seems to run around with that trademark scowl on his face.

In short, I'll skip this "Barbershop" and just head on down to Great Clips.
