I
openly admit that I wanted to like this film a
lot more than I actually did like it. I admired
the film, respected the film...I thought the
editing, sound and visual effects were
wonderful. Yet, somehow, I continue to find
myself fairly detached from the film. For that
reason alone, I cannot justify rating it in the
"A" range...Of course, we know that it is based
on a true story, and it's a powerful and
emotional story. The film features solid
performances from Tom Hanks, Kevin Bacon and
Bill Paxton. Ed Harris gives a marvelous, Oscar
nominated performance along with Kathleen
Quinlan in supporting roles. Ron Howard did a
wonderful job with the technical aspects of
directing, but I couldn't help but feel that
pieces of the emotional side of the story were
missing. The film, despite the intensity and
excitement of the actual story, was boring at
times.

TC Candler's Comment
A simply
brilliant storytelling from Ron Howard and the
cast. I really feel like I am watch the
events as they take place. This film is
superbly detailed and contains about 5 Oscar
worthy performances. "Apollo 13" is one of
the best films of 1995.
