I miss Jack Lemmon...

Director Billy Wilder is masterful once again as he tells us the story of Bud, a lonely office worker who is manipulated into giving up his apartment for the hanky-panky whims of his executive bosses.

Beautifully shot in black and white, this film boasts one of Jack Lemmon's finest performances as the bumbling and gullible worker drone who is blinded by the promises of a promotion. MacLaine also shows a spunky and intelligent tangent as the object of Bud's affections.

This is a great film that has held up supremely well.

Richard Propes' Comment

I have a friend who absolutely adores all of Jack Lemmon's films. After a recent re-viewing of "The Apartment," I got a solid reminder of why she's so fond of him. This film is also a brilliant reminder of the great acting of Shirley MacLaine. As directed by Billy Wilder, "The Apartment" is funny and poignant. Nearly 50 years after its release, "The Apartment" is a wonderful view.
