SPOILERS

"Aimee & Jaguar" is an extraordinary love story between two women in 1940s Berlin during the era of the Third Reich. Allegedly based on a true story, the film is the story Aimee...a middle class wife of a soldier with kids...and Jaguar...a Jewish club dancer and nude model.

The film is shot beautifully, and scripted with great humanity. In real life, Jaguar ended up being killed during the Holocaust, while Aimee is alive and well living in Berlin.

Juliane Koehler and Maria Schrader give tender, daring performances here.

Technical aspects of this film are quite wonderful including a nice musical score that companions the action well. The film was nominated for Best Foreign Film with the Golden Globes, and both Schrader and Koehler won Silver Bears at the Berlin Film Festival.

The supporting cast also does a stellar job, including performances by Detlev Buck as Aimee's husband, Peter Weck and Heike Makatsch.

This film has a tremendously loving, gentle presentation that is such a powerful contrast when one considers the WW II setting....an amazing balance is struck. This is a unique film with a definite beauty and power. The film is in German with English subtitles.
