I'm
torn on this film...I think it might qualify as
one of those films I admire more than I enjoy.
It's very "indie" nature appeals strongly to me,
and I greatly appreciate the camp performances
by Guy Pearce, Terence Stamp and Hugo Weaving.
As written and directed by Stephan Elliott, the
film generally works quite well, but strikes me
as a bit slow moving and dry in places. This
1994 film did a wonderful job of approaching gay
themes with sensitivity...of allowing characters
to develop as honest, warm and truthful human
beings...not simply as stereotypical gays.
Wonderful cinematography is also featured here
with beautiful Australian landscapes. Guy Pearce
fans will greatly appreciate this performance,
especially in contrast to a flick such as
"Memento."
