This past week, I submitted my nominees for the upcoming Razzie Awards.
Here are a few of the highlights from my picks for 2005's Worst Actress
and Supporting Actress! |
| |
WORST ACTRESS
- Charlize Theron, Aeon Flux: What is it with actresses after
an Oscar win? I don't understand why women who have proven they are
immensely talented insist on moving from Oscar-winning roles to such
mediocre roles. While her "Aeon Flux" experience is certainly no "Catwoman,"
it is embarrassing, uncomfortable and, quite simply, a bad
performance.
- Heather Locklear, The Perfect Man: Locklear's weak
performance is unlikely to win, because expectations were low anyway.
- Tara Reid, Alone in the Dark: Hmmm. One of the worst films
of the year starring Tara Reid. Go figure.
- Jenny McCarthy, Dirty Love: I would, most likely, have pity
on McCarthy had she not written this role for herself. Is it lack of
self respect? Is it low self-esteem? is it the awareness that she's
just a bad actress? From everything I hear, Ms. McCarthy is a
wonderfully nice human being. Jenny, let me give you some
advice...Nice women don't make crappy films like "Dirty Love." I never
want to see you flailing yourself in menstrual blood again. EVER.
- Jennifer Lopez, Monster-in-Law: This is NOT JLO's worst
performance, but it's bad enough to warrant a nomination. Ick.
WORST SUPPORTING ACTRESS
- Carmen Electra, Dirty Love: I can't even joke about this
performance. It's dreadful, awful, painful, awkward, and, well, bad.
As McCarthy's best friend in the film, Electra does sort of a junior
high gangsta act that is laughable from the first sentence uttered and
never improves.
- Paris Hilton, House of Wax: May be saved from the Razzie
win only by the fact that she has a nice, gory death in the film.
- Jessica Simpson, Dukes of Hazzard: Is her 15 minutes over
yet?
- Katie Holmes, Batman Begins: This performance will make you
appreciate Kirsten Dunst in the "Superman" films.
- Frances McDormand, Aeon Flux: This was a challenging
nomination, but a necessary one.
